Will Gregory Moog Ensemble + Vikingur Olafsson at LSO St Luke’s
Celebrate the visionary compositions of J S Bach alongside the achievements of synthesizer pioneer Dr Robert Moog. Ruth performs with Will Gregory Moog Ensemble.
Already a revered performer in his native Iceland, pianist Víkingur Ólafsson is establishing himself as one of the world’s finest young pianists. Tonight, he turns his attention to Bach, a selection of whose works he has recorded for release later this year.
Bach’s compositions are revisited – and rewired – in the second half of Session Two, as the Will Gregory Moog Ensemble interpret his orchestral works for the innovative synthesizers developed by Dr Robert Moog, recalling Wendy Carlos’s Switched-On Bach. Led by Will Gregory, known for his work as one half of Goldfrapp, the ensemble have previously appeared at the Barbican in 2015 as part of The Moog Concordance, a three-day series marking ten years since the death of Dr Robert Moog.
