Hay-on Wye – Harpland – with Graham Fitkin and three harps
After our online lockdown concert for Hay Music, we are delighted to finally perform in real life in beautiful St Mary’s Church.
Over the last year I have been exploring the theme of Migration in it’s many forms. Composer Graham Fitkin has re-composed old Gaelic songs and tunes from bagpipe and fiddle books for my three harps – the buzzing Renaissance bray harp, the beautiful medieval Gaelic wire harp (clàrsach) and the Scottish lever harp. The ancient music is re-imagined in looping, evolving patterns. Graham introduces the evening and talks about the stories of migration connected to the music as well as performing a couple of pieces of body percussion with me.
