The Fitkin Band will perform the world premiere of Wing composed by Graham specially for the Art of Flight Festival.  Combining piano, percussion, guitars, brass and Ruth on lever and bray harps,  the band is characterised by infectious rhythms and a toe-tapping minimalism.

FITKIN – fabulously energetic 9 piece band led by composer Graham Fitkin performing his new disco inspired commission.  Fitkin Band treads the blurred line between classical and jazz in exuberant fashion. THE PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, Wells Cathedral, 07 October 2016

Regularly voted one of the greatest masterworks of cinema history, Dreyer’s version of the story of Joan of Arc’s martyrdom is famously based on the transcripts of her trial. The score is composed by Will Gregory (Goldfrapp) and Adrian Utley (Portishead). Performers include electric guitars, full choir, percussion, horns and Ruth on 3 harps and mono-synth.

Ruth performs on stage live in Folie à Deux - a short opera by British composer Emily Hall, Icelandic writer and frequent Björk collaborator Sjón,  featuring Swedish jazz soprano Sofia Jernberg, and British opera tenor Allan Clayton. Composed by Hall for two singers, acoustic harp and a specially devised electromagnetic harp, Sjón's accompanying story involves a challenged relationship between two lovers, who, in turn, lose their grip on reality. Recorded in London, England and Stockholm, the resulting CD and live opera includes additional electronics by Mira Calix.

The grand finale of the BFIs The Genius of Hitchcock project will be a gala screening of the world premiere of Hitchcock’s newly restored  The Manxman (1929).  This powerful film depicts a love triangle set amongst the fishing community on the Isle of Man and will be accompanied by a new score for 5 musicians by Stephen Horne.
